Good Boys and True, a new play by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, will be the third production of the season at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre. Directed by Scott Ellis, the play will begin previews in late April and officially open in mid-May. No casting has been announced.
Set against a backdrop of 1980s privilege and power, Good Boys and True centers on a disturbing scandal at an all-boys prep school, which forces a mother to confront the truth about her son and herself. As the scandal unexpectedly twists and turns, mother and son find themselves contending with long-concealed secrets that threaten to destroy both school and family.
Second Stage first worked with Aguirre-Sacasa when the company produced his drama The Mystery Plays in the Second Stage Uptown series during the summer of 2004. He then became the NEA/TCG Playwright-in-Residence at Second Stage during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Aguirre-Sacasa's many plays include Based on a Totally True Story Manhattan Theatre Club, Dark Matters Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, The Velvet Sky Woolly Mammoth Theatre and The Muckle Man City Theatre in Pittsburgh. He has written for Marvel Comics and the HBO series Big Love.
Second Stage Theatre's production of Edward Albee's Peter and Jerry continues through December 30, followed by the new musical Next to Normal, which begins previews on January 16, 2008. Following Good Boys and True, the season will conclude in the early summer with a revival of Richard Nelson's Some Americans Abroad.
